Staggering Difference in Labor Costs Across the European Union

The significant disparity in labor costs between European Union (EU) member states has been revealed, with the difference between the most expensive and least expensive countries reaching over 38 euros per hour.

In 2022, the average hourly labor cost in the EU stood at 30.5 euros, but there was a wide range among member states. The highest average hourly labor costs were found in Denmark (42.1 euros), followed by Luxembourg (41.2 euros), Ireland (40.8 euros), and Belgium (40.7 euros).

On the other end of the spectrum, the lowest average hourly labor costs were seen in Bulgaria (9.3 euros), Romania (11.9 euros), Hungary (12.2 euros), and the Czech Republic (13.8 euros).
