Dwayne Johnson's 'The Smashing Machine' First Look Revealed
Uncut Gems Director Benny Safdie Takes on MMA Drama
Johnson Unrecognizable as Mark Kerr
Dwayne Johnson is gearing up for his latest role, and he's nearly unrecognizable in the first look. The actor is set to play MMA legend Mark Kerr in the upcoming A24 drama "The Smashing Machine," directed by Benny Safdie. The film, which is based on the true story of Kerr's rise and fall in the world of mixed martial arts, is set to hit theaters in late February 2024.
In the first look image, Johnson is seen as Kerr, complete with a shaved head, goatee, and bulging muscles. The actor's transformation is so complete that he's barely recognizable as the charismatic and larger-than-life persona he's known for.
Johnson is joined in the cast by Emily Blunt, who is in talks to play Kerr's wife. The film is being directed by Safdie, who is best known for his work on the acclaimed crime thriller "Uncut Gems." Production on "The Smashing Machine" is expected to begin later this year.
