Maple Leafs Add Former Canucks Executive

Clancey Brings Wealth of Experience to Toronto

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that they have hired Derek Clancey as assistant general manager of player personnel. Clancey, a native of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, spent the past seven seasons as the director of pro scouting for the Vancouver Canucks.

Clancey, 44, played 441 games in the ECHL, spending all but 50 of those games with the Victoria Salmon Kings. He began his scouting career with the Salmon Kings in 2008 and joined the Canucks in 2014. Clancey was the first person hired by Jim Rutherford when he became Canucks president of hockey operations in 2019.

In his new role with the Maple Leafs, Clancey will be responsible for evaluating and acquiring talent for the team. He will report to general manager Kyle Dubas.

"Derek is a highly respected and experienced executive who has a proven track record of success," said Dubas. "We are excited to add him to our management team and believe he will be a valuable asset to our organization."
