Congressgov is pleased to announce the release of its public application programming interface (API), providing Congress and the public with access to a vast array of machine-readable data from Congressgov collections.

Accessing the API

  2. View the GitHub repository for documentation and endpoints.

API Functionality

The Congressgov API enables users to view, retrieve, and reuse data from Congressgov collections, including:

  • Bills
  • Amendments
  • Summaries
  • Congress members
  • Congressional Record
  • Committee reports
  • Nominations
  • Treaties
  • House Communications

Library of Congress APIs

In addition to the Congressgov API, the Library of Congress also offers three APIs:

  • locgov API: Provides structured data about Library of Congress collections
  • Congress API: Retrieves legislative data from the House of Representatives, Senate, and Library of Congress
  • NYT API: Originated at The New York Times in 2009 and provides access to news, articles, and data
